John Banville has been highly regarded as a writer for the past 40 years. He won numerous prizes, including the Man Booker Prize, the Irish Book Award, and the Prince of Asturias Award for Literature.

About the Author

John Banville was born in Wexford, Ireland, in 1945. After college he worked for the airline Aer Lingus and enjoyed traveling widely. His literary reputation is built on the fictional portraits of three brilliant scientists (Copernicus, Kepler, Newton), but his writing comprises a variety of forms: novels, including crime novels, scripts and plays, and he is literary editor for the Irish Times. He lives in Dublin. The Design

Our edition of Banville’s The Sea is set by Erik Spiekermann in Signifier, designed by Kris Sowersby. Signifier is a “brutalist“ response to 17th century typefaces. The jacket design is inspired by a classic tweed pattern with a futuristic touch. 

It is signed by John Banville and the edition is limited to 998 copies.
