About us.

Birgit Schmitz is a renowned German book publisher who, for twenty years, worked in all capacities of book publishing, from commissioning and editing to production and list development. As a partner at TOC Publishing in Berlin, she brings this experience to The Other Collection’s letterpress editions, aligning authors, texts, and readers with the care and discernment of an independent literary house.

Susanna Dulkinys is a designer, Creative Director, and founding partner of TOC Publishing in Berlin, where she shapes The Other Collection’s signed, limited letterpress editions. Drawing on decades of work in editorial, brand, and packaging design for clients including WIRED, TCHO, and Silicon Valley Bank, she approaches each TOC volume as a piece of three-dimensional visual editing.

Erik Spiekermann is a typographer, designer, and founding partner of TOC Publishing in Berlin, responsible for the typographic DNA of The Other Collection’s signed, limited letterpress editions. With decades of experience in type design, information systems, and brand identities, he treats each book as a precise typographic instrument, tuned for legibility, rhythm, and the physical realities of ink on paper.
In 1979, he started MetaDesign, Germany’s largest design studio, and in 1989, FontShop, the first independent distributor of electronic fonts. Erik’s many awards and medals would be too boring to list – except the Gutenberg Prize for 2026 from the Gutenberg Society in Mainz, which he just received.
Apart from being on the board of Edenspiekermann, he now runs p98a.berlin, an experimental letterpress workshop in Berlin whose motto is “Hacking Gutenberg.” Spiekermann lives and works in Berlin and London.
